Healing Gear: Idols, Weapons, and Off Hands

Much later than I'd intended, but I finally updated these old guides. You can find the complete lists for these gear slots in the following posts.

Idols
Two-Handed Weapons
One-Handed Weapons with Off-Hands

Not only are they much more complete, but I've included all of the changes from patch 2.4. Hopefully, this guide will remain viable for druid healers until Wrath of the Lich King is released.

A couple comments, if I might.

First, you've actually missed out on one of the best offhands, something a druid can pick up at 68- the Netherwing Spiritualist's Charm. You recieve it at the end of the quest chain in Shadowmoon Valley that grants you neutral reputation with the Netherwing. This is an excellent offhand, unbeatable (in my opinion) for trees until Karazhan.

Second, you've missed an idol- the Idol of Budding Life, 20 badges from G'eras in Shattrath. In tree form, it adds up to about a 10% reduction in the mana cost of Rejuvenation.

Finally, the difference between the Lightblade and the Anointing Club (not very major) does not ever make it a good idea to pass on the Staff of Beasts for anyone who is not a Balance druid. Even if you're not currently running Feral, that staff is worth dropping in the bank until and unless you're doing the group quest-chains in Netherstorm.

Just a few thoughts. Cheers!

Thanks for the comments. As I mention at the beginning of the post, this was originally a sort of "shopping list" for my new druid. I plan on expanding it as a valid resource soon.

However, you do make a very good point about the Staff of Beasts. I certainly agree that every druid should have a feral staff, and I have a list of some easy-to-obtain ones here.

In terms of idols (and this goes for librams as well, because Paladins always get shorted with us), there's only 2 worth the time of day for resto currently: Harold's and Emerald Queen. The two epic ones you listed are so terrible it makes me cringe. We rarely use Healing Touch (except for NS) and the mana reduction on Rejuv is too small to make much of a difference.

Emerald is best because LB is your most common spell in raiding and in instances, though I could see Harold's being useful otherwise.

Other two-hand weps to consider:
Staff of the Redeemer (reward from the Cipher of Damnation questline in SMV)
Seer's Cane (for Revered with the Scryers)

One-hand wep:
Runed Dagger of Solace (Drop from Thorngrin in Botanica)

Offhands:
There's a quest reward from Sethekk Halls: The Saga of Terokk that is worthwhile. There are offhand drops in Ramparts, Arcatraz, Old Hillsbrad, and Slave Pens that can compete with Signet of Unshakeable Faith.

I know you have focused on quest items as they are 100% certainties, but there are some instance drops worth a mention for main and off-hands because a) they are both superior to those mentioned, b) drop in shat'ar instances (I got my Gavel very quickly and it took ages for the Maiden's mace to drop and I let our Paladin have it). So, http://www.wowhead.com/?item=28257 from first mecha boss (farmable esp with other excellent druid gear on the loot table) and then http://www.wowhead.com/?item=28387 from Arca

I had both of these and the Cipher of damnation staff before entering Kara with my druid and now switch between the Gavel and Nightbane staff for spi boost on innervate.

Happy hunting :D

I'm surprised no one brought this up, but Revered rep reward for Lower City includes an excellent epic off hander called "Lower City Prayer Book" and it is pretty easy to get enough rep with lower city to reach revered relatively quick...
